Imagine Dunder Mifflin staff getting new jobs as scientists and military personnel in Space Force…

That’s what you somewhat get from the new Netflix series Space Force created by the legendary duo of hit series The Office-Greg Daniels and Steve Carell.

So the story revolves around four-star general Mark Neird who is assigned a new division called Space Force and their primary objective is to establish an American base on the Moon.

Although happening at a workplace that has military personnel and scientists, the silly goof-ups and banter are similar to THE OFFICE with the only difference being the goof-ups here costs a lot of money and high profile jobs are at stake.

The central relationship of the series is between General Mark Neird and Chief Scientist Adrian Malory played by the wonderful John Malkovich. They often clash in their ideologies as Adrian is very much science-driven while Mark is purpose-driven. But in the end, they have each other’s back. They both have great chemistry and it is fun to watch.

The series also looks like a mash-up between THE OFFICE and THE BIG BANG THEORY and while that does not make it better than both these series, it is good enough to binge-watch all the 10 episodes on a lazy day.

The only problem is unlike THE OFFICE where you had at least 8–10 memorable characters, Space Force just has three. General Mark, Adrian, and General Mark’s daughter Erin Naird played Diana Silvers. She brings in the personal side of General’s life. Rest all characters are forgettable and do not make a mark.

My Favourite episode from the first season of Space Force was the 2nd episode where the general decides to deploy the space Chimpanzee to weld the solar panel of one of their satellites. It was a laugh riot.

The series ends with a cliffhanger and keeps you on the hook to wait for the 2nd season.

To summarize Space Force gives us the sweet nostalgia of THE OFFICE and although the series had a huge budget, it didn’t have the sufficient ingredients of characters, making it just an above-average series. It has the potential to become a great series so I hope they do that in the second season.
