The Weeknd launched 2 singles “Heartless” and “Blinding Lights” in Dec 2019 and it topped all the music charts just like before. The music was smooth, sexy and so addictive that you just keep listening in a loop. It’s like a music drug that gives you a different kind of high.

I have been a fan of The Weeknd a.k.a Abel Tesfaye since I stumbled upon “Can’t feel my face ” on youtube and I have been hooked since then. His voice, the unique music score coupled with a super slick video just made it a never-ending affair.

As I watched his videos and live performances I couldn’t help but notice similarities between The Weeknd and my other favorite artist the legendary Michael Jackson. They both had similar enigma in their personality.

So what if The Weeknd was an incarnation of Michael Jackson. Well not literally but figuratively as finally, we millennials have someone who is very close to the legendary smooth criminal.

So here are the 3 reasons why I think The Weeknd is Michael Jackson reborn

Magical Voice

Most male artists have vocals that are either broad or very thin but very few have vocals are smooth and smoky like an old whiskey. Michael Jackson had such voice that was just so hypnotic that you yearned for more every time you listened. The Weeknd too has similar vocals that are super smooth and addictive to hear. You keep telling yourself to listen one more time and the loop just never ends.

Charismatic personality

Michael Jackson’s charismatic personality was well known to the entire world. His shy interviews, the constant changing face through surgery, his love for children ( for whatever reasons ) and some weird stunts ( dangling his kid through balcony window and taking a chipmunk as a pet) all together made him a very unique and intriguing personality.

The Weeknd too is no different. He has rarely given any big interviews making people wonder who he is as a person. Also his on and off relationship with Bella Hadid and a sudden hookup with Selena Gomez and subsequent breakup just adds to the mystery. Also not to forget his acid trip like videos that are beautiful, hallucinatory and confusing making us wonder about his relationship with all the substances.

Electric stage performance

Michael Jackson’s MTV performance is the stuff of a legend. His black suit, the curly hair falling on the side, white gloves, short trouser, and the face-covering hat has since become iconic and so has been the mind-blowing moonwalk, Michael knew how to give an electric performance on stage and that’s was one of the reasons his live performance tickets used to get sold out in a matter of seconds.

The Weeknd too has a great on-stage performance. The leather jacket, signature sneakers and unique style of lighting on the stage coupled with some slick dance moves make his performance super electric. He might not have the deadly dance moves of Michael but he very well makes up for it by looping the audience into his songs and making them do the moves instead.

So, all in all, I think The Weeknd is the music legend that we millennials were desperately waiting for and I can forsee that he is going to give us some of the best R&B music that will be remembered for a very long time.

Hey Weeknd .. We Love you
