Netflix started with a bang in India with Sacred games but couldn’t come any other good shows. Shows like Ghoul, Leila hardly made any news. Even the 2nd season of Sacred Games received a lukewarm response. Amazon Prime, on the other hand, started off with decent show BREATHE but then they managed to come up with consistently good shows like MIRZAPUR, MADE IN HEAVEN, etc. Netflix had to gain ground hence along with SRK’s Red chilies production produced BARD OF BlOOD. Amazon prime too simultaneously launched THE FAMILY MAN starring Manoj Vajpayee. Both storylines revolve around an Indian spy fighting terrorism so comparing both of them was an obvious thing to do. So let’s see who is the winner among these two.

THE FAMILY MAN vs BARD OF BLOOD

I have compared both series on 4 categories.

  1. Story
  2. Cinematography
  3. Acting
  4. Editing

STORY

BARD OF BLOOD revolves around an ex Indian Spy Kabir Singh who gets dragged in a mission to rescue 4 Indian spies captured by terrorists.

THE FAMILY MAN is a story of middle-class govt officer Shrikant who is secretly a world-class spy. While balancing his personal and professional life, he needs to solve the biggest threat to India.

In terms of the story, The Family Man is a fresh take on spy stories. The story has great flavors of suspense, comedy, action & drama and is fun to watch. Bard of Blood in comparison is your generic run of the mill spy story that does not bring anything new to the table.

Point 1 to THE FAMILY MAN

CINEMATOGRAPHY

In terms of cinematography, THE FAMILY MAN which is shot majorly in Mumbai is good. Especially the chase sequence with Moosa in the first episode and his subsequent escape in the 6th episode is shot very well. BARD OF BLOOD is shot majorly in Balochistan and captures the desert, the beauty as well as the action & chase really well. In terms of pure quality, BARD OF BLOOD has better cinematography.

Point 1 to BARD OF BLOOD

ACTING

This is a clean sweep for THE FAMILY MAN. Manoj Vajpayee superbly plays the role of Shrikant. He gets into the skin of the character and emotes the frustration & vulnerability of a man balancing 2 extreme ends of his life. It’s not just Manoj but each and every person has played the role brilliantly. Special mention to Neeraj Madhav who plays Moosa. What an actor… terrifying yet charismatic.

BARD OF BLOOD pales in comparison. Imran Hashmi tries hard but comes out superficial. Even he looks uncomfortably unfit during the chase and fight sequence. Vineet Singh is the only one who plays the role competently. Shobita’s character has very little character arc.

Point 1 to THE FAMILY MAN

EDITING

Both the shows do a good job of editing but BARD OF BLOOD has some silly mistakes. The gunshots if you see looks clearly fake with no recoil whatsoever. Imran gets stabbed in the season finale but then he looks completely unaffected by it and continues his work. Each and every shot fired by Imran and his team kill. But when enemies fire, no one gets hurt.

Point 1 to THE FAMILY MAN.

Conclusion

So with a score of 3 out of 4, THE FAMILY MAN is the show you should watch. It is entertaining and will compel you to watch the next episode until you finish it.
