I know what you are thinking, The Office India with the classic UK & US? am I crazy? Well no, if hotstar can dare produce an Indian version of this classic, I have to dare and compare it.

And yes the Indian version is exactly how you had seen it in the promo. Cringy, Unrelated and characters that just don’t connect.

So the best way to compare these shows is to speak about the famous characters and who played the role best. So I am taking 4 famous characters of the office and compare who did how .. let’s dig in

David Brent vs Michael Scott vs Jagdeep Chaddha

The megalomaniac, the master of making things awkward, the core of the office, the boss … its none other than David/Michael/Jagdeep. He is the essence of this tv show and gets the meatiest role. The weakest here is Jagdeep played by Mukul Chaddha. He feels fake and clearly looks like he is trying to act and that’s the problem. The character should be effortless as he is being filmed for a documentary, not a movie. So the fakeness just puts you off.

David played by the legendary Ricky Gervais & Michael played by Steve Carell are both bloody brilliant. Both bring something different to the character that makes them so much fun to watch. Steve gets a good 9 seasons portraying the titular character while Ricky gets just 2 seasons but I must say Ricky’s portrayal of David was what I loved the most.

So point 1 to the office UK

Gareth Keenan vs Dwight Shrute vs T.P. Mishra

This is where the tables turn towards the U.S.

T.P Mishra played by Gopal Dutt is decent and natural of the entire lot of ‘The Office- India’ but was played better by Mackenzie as Gareth Keenan. But both of them are miles behind the spectacular performance of Dwight Shrute played by Rainn Wilson. He is loyal to a fault, self-professed genius of everything and a man with weird habits. The banter between Jim and Dwight is one of the funniest in the show.

So Point 1 to The Office – U.S

Tim Canterbury vs Jim Halpert vs Amit Sharma

This character is the quintessential chocolate boy of The Office. He is funny, charming, soft-spoken and smart and Dwight hates him for that. Tim played by Martin Freeman is good but Jim played by John Krasinski is amazing. His expressions given towards the camera during an awkward situation created mostly by Michael or Dwight is just amazing. Amit Sharma played by Sayandeep again is over the top and fake and nowhere near Jim or Tim.

So Point 1 to The Office- U.S

Dawn Tinsley vs Pam Beesly vs Pammi Goel

Ok .. let me start with Pammi played Samridhi Dewan. She just didn’t get the essence of the character is borderline arrogant in the show which is not what the character demands. So clearly this was a wrong casting.

Dawn played by Lucy is fine but misses on the innocence and chemistry with Tim. Pam Beesly played by Jenna Fischer works wonderful majorly due to her onscreen chemistry with Jim ( Fun fact – John Krasinski and Jenna didn’t even know each other and met for the first time on the sets of The Office, Unbelievable right ? ). Also, the innocence that she brings to the character makes it even more appealing.

So point 1 to The Office- U.S

Final Score

  • The Office U.K- 1
  • The Office U.S- 3
  • The Office Ind- 0

Conclusion:

So the Winner is The Office- U.S because of the great ensemble of talented actors followed by The Office- U.K.

The Office- India is definitely something that should have never been made. It would have made for a good show if they took actors who acted naturally and also they should have changed the setup as well as the characters to suit India.
