Most of us have been consuming only Hollywood and Indian cinema content, but there are a whole lot of other countries who are making some really great cinema. One such country is South Korea and today we are going to explore Korean Movies.

In this blog, I would be suggesting 5 must-watch Korean movies that will make you yearn for more Korean content.

If you like watching more than reading, you can click on the below video which I have made on the same topic

5. The Good, The bad and the weird

Let’s start the list with a light-hearted yet super entertaining movie, The Good, The bad, The weird by Kim Jee Woon. This is a quintessential masala movie that has everything from action, comedy, thrill, and drama. The storyline is tight with slick editing and super fast cinematography that keeps you entertained all the way to the end.

Watch this movie and in the end, you will be out and out entertained.

4. Train to Busan

If you are a horror and zombie movie genre fan then this is a feast for you. A zombie-infested city, a train that is going to Busan with a father, daughter, pregnant women, college kids, and elders. Things become intense when one of the zombie enters the train and slowly and each and every bogie turns out to be Zombieland and the survivors need to cross these bogies to reach a safe spot.

Again a movie that’s tight in execution, min blowing makeup and VFX and superb cinematography.

3. War of Arrows

Traditional war weapons like swords and arrows are timeless and we all love to watch a fight using these weapons. There are a lot of movies with great sword-fighting skills but an intense arrow fight with unbelievable cinematography is what you get in this movie. A warrior brother goes out and faces an entire army with his bow and arrow to save his sister from slavery.

You have never seen a better arrow fight scenes coupled with a strong story than War of Arrows… A must watch for all action movie fans.

2. The Host

Hollywood is very well known for its large than life creatures that threaten to destroy the city, world or humanity and a bunch of brave people fight and destroy it. It’s a staple summer blockbuster movie recipe. But Bong Joon ho takes a very different approach. Rather than focusing on the creature, this movie focuses on how society reacts to such catastrophe and how a dysfunctional family fights their way through such an event. So what you get is an intense drama of family although grappling with their own set of issues, doing everything to save their loved ones.

Also, there is a creature confrontation scene towards the end and the VFX used is at par with the Hollywood counterparts.

1. Parasite

And the number one movie in this list is none other than the movie that created a huge ripple in the world cinema, PARASITE by Bong Joon Ho. Bong is undoubtedly one of the most talented directors we have and it was proved from his earlier movies like Okja, Memories of Murder, The Host, Snowpiercer, etc

But Parasite is just on another level and it has rightly caught the attention of Academy Award and has been nominated for the best foreign movie.

The title of the movie is so apt that it actually summarises the story in that one word. A poor family who is out of work slowly starts leeching on a rich family and in-process to commit unspeakable horrors.

The movie stays with you long after the movie ends and just like a Parasite, it will get into your skin compelling you to think again and again about what you just watched.
