5 Years back I was so frustrated to see stupid Bollywood movies made by SRK or Salman Khan that were utterly trash but still made shit load of money. The only exception to this was Aamir Khan who made good sensible movies.

But then came the age of Dark horses – dominated by Nawazuddin Siddique, Irrfan Khan & Rajkumar Rao and with them movies with variety of topics that were untouched by mainstream bollywood (Bollywood still to the larger part is only interested in millionaire kids love story). Rajkumar Rao in particular has been having a blast for last 2 odd years

His movie Newton and Web Series- BOSE have been my recent favourites.

If you have seen movies like Bareily ki Barfi , Kai Poche you might have realised that Rajkumar can effortlessly play the role of innocent Town boy with his honest eyes and soft, humble and mumbling tone.

When I had seen the trailer of Stree, I was not very sure if it would be a good movie. Because time and again we have seen method actors like Rajkumar , Nawajuddin don’t get the best commercial mainstream movies ( Fanney Khan (Rajkumar) , Munna Michael(Nawajuddin) ) .

Plus whenever I see Shraddha kapoor in a movie i get a feeling that it might be a box office bomb.

Dont blame me Haseena Parker, Half Girlfirend, Ok Jaanu, Rock On 2 were her last 4 movies that bombed like anything.

But I am very happy to say that Stree is one of the best Horror comedy movies Bollywood has generated in a long long time.

The script is simple yet very very effective with very good dialogues and punch lines sprinkled evenly through the movie. They have also managed to convey a message on feminist issue in an entertaining way (Thank fully they have avoided any kind of Bhashan that’s usually apart of such movies).

The Direction and cinematography is also one of the strongest parts. They have shot village, town location very beautifully. The music too is good with use of jump scare when the Ghost arrives.

Rajkumar as I said is the crown jewel of the movie. He effortlessly portrays the role of village tailor who thinks he is a superstar of Tailoring. His body language, tone, facial expression and dialogue delivery are to the point. Even his friends played by Aparshakti Khurrana & Abhishek Banerjee have done a great job. Shraddha has a limited screen presence and does a decent job of creating an enigma.

Overall I had a blast watching this movie. And the fact that this movie has done 100 crore makes me even happy. Hope more and more producers back such offbeat concepts and hope we get more such good stuff.

Rajkumar Aage badho…
