As a content creator myself, nothing bugs me more than seeing a good movie go unnoticed while a garbage movie getting unnecessary attention.

Yes, I am talking about Taish directed by Bejoy Nambiar that no one is talking about. It is a phenomenal film with all the right ingredients and definitely deserves your attention. However, while I see very little mention of this brilliant movie, there is a lot of buzz about the recently released David Dhavan movie – Coolie no. 1.

So in this blog, I am giving you 4 reasons why you should avoid wasting 3 hours of your valuable life watching the badly acted, directed – Coolie no. 1 and instead relish Bejoy Nambiar’s beautiful – Taish available on Zee5.

1. Original Story

I don’t know about you guys, but I am fed up with the remake virus that has pestered Bollywood in recent years. Be it the Sholay remake ( which later was renamed as Ramgopal Verma ki Aag) or Zanjeer or even the recent Judwa, all these movies were remade only to show us how amazing the originals were. The remake was just a lazy and pathetic attempt to create the magic the original had. Coolie no. 1 is no exception and it pains me to see that it is the same director who made the original classic only to remake it into a hot mess.

Taish on the other hand created by the very talented Bejoy Nambiar is a refreshingly original story that revolves around four friends who come together for a wedding but instead get entangled in a mafia family that created all sorts of mayhem in their life. It is a well-written story that dives deep into human relations and emotions making it a must-watch.

2. Amazing songs and background score

A movie experience is enhanced when you have an amazing background score and music. We saw this recently in movies like URI, Stree, etc. However, Coolie no.1 neither has a good background score nor good songs ( most songs too are taken from the original movie).

Bejoy however has put a lot of effort into the background score and music which is evident when you watch the movie. The background score transcends you into the world of NRI’s and the wedding season. There are also some very nice songs that will linger in your mind long after you finish the movie. My personal favorite is Funk by Pav Dharia which I am currently listening to in a loop.

3. Impeccable acting

It goes without saying that a story is as compelling as the actors who enact the roles. Acting can even make a mediocre story have a lasting impact. Coolie no.1 sadly lacked not only in the story but the acting as well. Varun Dhavan tried his best to enact the legendary role but couldn’t come even close to Govinda’s hilarious timing and acting. Sara Ali Khan however was just bad. Her expressions were overly plasticky and didn’t feel genuine at all.

Taish however just exploded with great acting. Pulkit Samrat, Kriti Kharbanda played their role aptly while Jim Sarbh as usual was effortless in his role. The star however was Harshvardhan Rane who played the role of a ruthless gangster and a hopeless lover. He embodied the character so well that you forget he is Harshvardhan and just see the character- Pali. Another great actor in this movie is Saurabh Sachdeva who plays the role of Sukhi and Pali’s best man. He is funny, ruthless, and outright crazy. It was a treat watching him on screen.

4. Technically flawless

You can differentiate most Bollywood movies from Hollywood purely on a technical aspect. The color grading, cinematography, and editing in Hollywood movies are slick and fast while Bollywood generally has traditional cinematography and editing. Coolie no. 1 is the best example of a traditional Bollywood movie with bright colors and flamboyant sets with actors wearing shiny clothes and overly done makeup.

Taish however breaks out in this department. If you mute the movie and ask anyone to watch it, most of them might confuse it for an English or a Korean movie. The editing is super slick ( a signature style of Bejoy) and so is the cinematography and non-linear storytelling which is why this movie is an engrossing experience.

So to conclude, if you are like me and really want Indian cinema to create and promote good story and content, I urge you to watch Taish which is currently on Zee5 rather than the mind-numbing star kid laden utterly tasteless Coolie no. 1
