Now that i think of .. my parents were very innovative 😛

I was in 6th standard when the cable tv had become a rage in India. Zee Tv , Sony Tv and other couple of them were launched and India was hooked like never before to the idiot box. Among our neigbourhood our home was the only one that didnt have the famous cable umbrella and we were pissed. We(me, my younger brother and my sister)  begged everyday to mom & dad to get a cable connection which was followed by a long lecture by dad about how life is diffcult and how he in his childhood had starting working at my age. So it always ended with we feeling bad about ourselves.

But secretly dad and mom too wanted access to kannada entertainment ( we being Shetty’s ) but they knew for sure that if they get a cable connection, we woould be glued to the tv and would not study ( which was true) . So dad came up with a unique idea.. he installed a something called as booster which only caught one channel and that was doordarshan kannada.

Beggers cannot be choosers … hence we were happy atleast we had one more channel to surf and thats how our journey began into kannada cinema.

The Kannada cinema had a glorious run in the 60s and 70s that was single handedly ruled by Dr Rajkumar.

But then came the 80s and 90s where the movie standards started degrading and we were introduced to hollywood which made us forget about Kannada cinema.

But in recent years there have been some very good movies from cinema like Lucia , Rangitaranga, Ulidavaru Kandante etc but these very very rare …

But now i think the Industry is on a brink of an overhaul and it has started with KGF

The story is pretty routine … Bad guys have taken over a karnataka gold smuggling business and people are employed like slaves to mine them. To finish this tyranny comes a criminal with a good heart to face the devil ..

But whats different

Cinematography –

This is a first kannada movie that has a cinematography that matches hollywood. The extreme contrast, the high definition slow mo and overall camera panning is top of the class

Background score-

The background score is epic as it should be for a movie like this . The theme song used for the lead’s entry gives you goose bumps.

Action-

The action has always been a problem in kannada movies with vague camera movement that made it difficult to actually watch and relish. But thankfully this movie has done it right. Some of the action in desert seems to be motivated by Mad Max – Fury road but in a good way. The only problem is there are too many action scenes and you feel fatigued towards the end of the movie. Also the violence is a bit too much which again makes you tired.

Acting-

Yash looks dashing and super handsome ( What a beard and hair .. wow )

and performs well. The acting of the villians and suporting actors is over the top but i guess thats what is required in such movies.

What could have been better-

The love story is just plain stupid. Plus Srinidhi Shetty’s acting is too plastic

Its just not convincing (the heroine shifts from being the villians love interest to the hero’s in a moment ) and could have been avoided entirely. The rocky song feels out of place and should have been omitted. The pace of the movie is very and there is too much happening every minute . It was possible to make it simple and omit some details that was not that important to story’s core. Also the way the movie back and forth in past and present is not that coherent.

The action could have been reduced to 3-4 than what i guess were atleast 10 of them.

But overall its a great movie and must watch for all and i hope we get more of such kannada movies that  makes us proud.

Kannada Cinema .. Kya chahiye tereko ..
