I had recently read somewhere that GOT would be the last Tv show that would be seen like this. This eagerness and excitement are seldom going to repeat.
But as they say, too much hype is also not a good thing. And I can see why … the season 8 is turning out to be a pile of disappointment and I am sure I am not the only one feeling this.
So here are 3 reasons why Game of Thrones Season 8 is killing itself.
- What’s the Rush
Tv shows are like food. Some are cooked on a high flame like fast food while some are cooked on a low flame over a longer period of time to get that soft smoky flavor. Game of Thrones has always been the later. But Season 8 is just rushing like an unwanted tsunami. Why? Did we ever complain about the pace?
The reality is there is not enough material created as George Martin is yet to write the books. So the tv writers are writing in their usual flair and we the audience can smell the difference.
Just like when you visit your favorite restaurant, order your favorite food and you suddenly realize the cook has changed ( Talk about tragedy )
- Character Assassination
As a writer myself, nothing is more criminal than an unjustified character ending . Season 8 in that sense has been a mass murderer.
Cersei dies under a pile of rubble? seriously? No confrontation with the mother of dragons?
What the hell…
Varys who was supposed to be “Master of Whispers” suddenly turns out to be “Master of talk secret loud “ and get burned into ashes by the million teeth dragon, what?
These are just some examples of many other characters killed stupidly ( The characters must screaming in their graves “Not like this … Not like this “ )
Killing is an art which GOT had helmed beautifully for a better part of all 6 seasons ( In the 7th season too we witnessed a horrible character assassination of Lord Baelish a.k.a Little Finger)
- Character Arc
Each and every character is developed with care over time until it reaches its arc ( which in some case is death). Take the example of Rob Stark, how well was that character developed. We all loved him and were equally shocked during “The red wedding “ episode. But now that arc has gone missing. Not a single character apart from Arya Stark developed. Jon even after knowing he is the true heir to the Iron throne does not change, nor does Daenerys Targaryen after knowing her blood relation with Jon.
Also, the weird character arc was the mother of dragons turning into a mad queen. Why? Just because Missandaei was killed? Seriously? I would have understood her becoming mad queen if Jon was killed but not just for Missandei … nope. I don’t buy that.
Not sure how they are going to end the season and the show but I hope they end it at least in a respectable way. Please …Please.
Also George please complete the book. Give us the closure we deserve. Please…
